‘DIRI BERSIH, BADAN SIHAT’ EVENT FOR THE INDIGENOUS KIDS OF PULAU INDAH

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

Teaching is an essential way to instil something into a person’s life. That’s how our Impian Infinity committee came up with the “Diri Bersih, Badan Sihat’ event to help out the indigenous children in the Pulau Indah region. Impian Infinity has been planning for this ambitious event which involves a tutoring session for the children on personal hygiene.

The aim was to teach them about basic cleanliness as the indigenous children are particularly vulnerable to unsanitary environment and infection that not only affects their growth and development, but also their intellectual development, educational outcomes and health and wellbeing throughout life.

There were two main segments which we focused on; tooth brushing and hand washing session. Dr Ikmal from Klinik Pergigian Pandamaran was invited to give some insights on healthy teeth and gums. The children were also given a through dental check-up and thereafter, they were taught on the correct method of brushing teeth. The rest of the event went smoothly with Q&A session, giving out gifts to the children and also a hand washing tutorial. We were blissed to see the involvement and interest shown by the children and believe that they will implement it in their daily lives.
